Séguret sits perched above the Rhône Valley, its golden-hued stone buildings blending seamlessly into the rocky hillside. The medieval streets wind through the village, quiet and timeless, offering glimpses of vineyards below and the distant silhouette of the Dentelles de Montmirail. After a long day in Vacqueyras, visiting producers and tasting powerful Rhône reds, arriving in Séguret felt like a shift in pace—an invitation to slow down and take in the beauty of the moment.

Côté Terrasse captures the essence of this tranquil hilltop village. The restaurant, set along the edge of Séguret, opens up to an expansive view of the valley, where neat rows of vines stretch toward the horizon. As we settled into our table on the terrace, a light breeze carried the unmistakable scent of warm stone and wild herbs, a signature of Provence. The evening unfolded with a chilled glass of Mourchon La Source, a white Côtes du Rhône from a local domaine. Crisp and refreshing, with bright citrus and floral notes, it was the perfect way to begin the meal.

Dinner was a celebration of Provençal flavors. A slow-braised lamb shank arrived alongside stuffed

vegetables—tender zucchini and tomatoes filled with savory breadcrumbs and herbs—along with crisp, golden frites. The richness of the dish called for a deeper wine, and a bottle of Domaine Jean-David provided exactly that. This natural Rhône blend had a purity that highlighted the depth of the lamb, with dark fruit, earth, and a touch of spice rounding out the flavors.

The meal ended with a molten chocolate cake, its rich, velvety center spilling onto the plate, balanced by a scoop of ice cream and a swirl of berry coulis. By the time we finished our espresso, the last light of the day had faded, and the village had fallen into a hush, save for the sound of cicadas singing loudly in the warm night air.

As we left Séguret, the quiet streets cast in the soft glow of streetlights, it felt like more than just a meal—it was a moment of stillness, a chance to take in the beauty of good no fuss food, good wine, and a view that made the climb worthwhile. I will visit again next time I am in the area.
